Tucson JUG

Our merry group of java developers meet in Tucson on the 2nd Tuesday monthly from 6:30-8:30PM. We mingle and do introductions, then at 7PM we have one or two presentation topics - mini (15-20 min), main (45-60 min). The subject matter varies but always provides for interesting discussion at the meetings and on our active mailing list.

2009 Meeting Schedule

  • Jan. 13
    • TR will show how to work at the command line to get the most out of your development sessions
Tools like: grep, sed, awk, and using pipes

  • Jan 13 2009
    • Things a (Java) Programmer should know

  • I've got an IntelliJ license. Now what?

  • Beyond Ant & Maven
    • A Look at other solutions
    • Introducing Gradle (merely Gant+Ivy?)

    • Introducing Buildr - (What's Buildr?)
    • Using Maven with a DVCS like (Git|Mercurial|Bazaar)
    • Using static analysis in your build process: FindBugs, PMD/CPD, etc
  • Unit Testing in Groovy
  • Distributed Version Control Systems
    • Is Mercurial really the James Bond of SCM?
    • What caused Canonical to pick Bazaar over Git?
  • Database migration with dbDeploy http://dbdeploy.com/
  • JRuby
  • Another Shoot-out? Like the Script Language Shoot-out 2006
    • Rich Internet Application Shoot-out?
      I'll be there: ajb
    • Web Framework Shoot-out?
      I'll be there: ajb
  • Tom Hicks volunteered to present in the future on "something interesting"
    • Hey, I'm flattered Bill but this entry has been here for over a year....I HAVE done something
(interesting or not) since then. Not to say that I wouldn't be willing to do something else but
it will have to be after the next couple months. --trh
      I'll be there: whm
  • Code Camp Discussion - group learning via hands-on coding?
  • Favorite small tools - four or five 10-15 minute presentations on small, lean,
